Six months ago Coralyne James was found beaten and clinging to life alongside a desolate country road. Left with a rare form of amnesia, she now struggles through debilitating migraines, and nightmarish visions of a life she can’t recall.
During a routine exam, Coralyne meets Dr. Maxwell Hough who is taking the medical world by storm with his breakthrough neurological treatments. Fascinated by Coralyne’s maladies, Dr. Hough invites her to be a part of a medical trial held at his lab in Valdez, Alaska. Praying three months trapped in the deep snow surrounding Ravyn Manor will hold the key to easing her pain, Coralyne agrees.
For reasons she can’t explain, walking the halls of the manor seems to cause ghostly recollections to claw at the edges of her mind. It’s as if they are leading her to... something. Following their haunting trail, she stumbles onto a series of recordings that reveal a horrifying truth about the respected doctor.
As her blocked memories finally break free, Coralyne is crippled by the fear she’ll never escape the horrors of the Ravyn’s nest.
Caging my head, I bend inward to block each striking blow to my ribs from the darkened toe of a brown boot. The metallic odor of blood clogs my nose and liquid drips down my brow burning my irises before flushing away with the river pouring down my cheeks. A deep muffled voice yells but the words jumble and my eyes only see blurred figures. The person kicking towers above with wide shoulders while a narrower framed person watches from behind. Something swings hard and fast at my face. “No,” I beg, recoiling in protection. My eyes fly open and muted pain sears through every muscle and tendon before rocketing through my nervous system. Sweat slicks my skin and the bright light scorches my eyeballs. “She’s awake. Get Doctor Bowman, STAT.” I shift my head to see who she is but the slight move pulls the tube sticking out of my mouth and my throat burns like someone poured bleach down my esophagus. A garble groan shakes my body amplifying the hurt. A handsome, young doctor appears in my line of sight. “It’s okay, Coralyne. You’re safe. We’re going to remove the breathing tube. Blink if you understand.” I analyze his kind eyes and smooth face before allowing my lids to flutter in acquiescence. Anxious to be able to speak because I want to know who in the hell Coralyne is. Come to think of it, who the hell am I?
